The confirmed one-on-one combat animations that return in Dawn of War IV and how they relate to the Combat Director.
A choreographed fight to the death
The developer’s Combat Director article explains that sync kills are special animations. They occur when units stop using generic scrapping animations and instead square up in a visceral one-on-one fight to the death. The publisher and developer present these moments as a returning part of Dawn of War’s identity, expanded within the new animation system rather than as a separate resource or combat statistic.
The article says that the animations are designed to make combat feel immersive and describes the system as a personalised touch for combat animations. That establishes the presentation goal. It does not state that every one-on-one encounter becomes a sync kill, nor does it publish a list of unit pairs, a trigger percentage or a damage bonus attached to the sequence.
What a sync kill does not prove
The visible sequence should not be used as a shortcut for hidden balance information. A dramatic execution animation shows that the Combat Director selected a particular interaction; it does not, by itself, reveal a unit’s armour value, weapon efficiency or matchup tier. The source describes the animation system, not a competitive ranking of the units that can appear in it.
The confirmed page can therefore explain why Sync Kills matter to the feel of Dawn of War IV and how the developer positions them inside the Combat Director. It cannot provide a pre-release catalogue of all triggers, a guaranteed tactical outcome or a build order. Those details are not published in the authority checked on 2026-08-21.

No cost, build time, hit points, range, damage or squad size here — none of it has been published, by anyone. The game has not shipped and no playable build has produced figures that can be checked. Those rows appear the day the numbers exist.
