The confirmed Combat Director system, what the developer says it coordinates and what it does not reveal about combat balance.

A system for dynamic combat animation

Deep Silver presents Dawn of War IV’s Combat Director as a new system behind its visceral combat. The publisher’s product page says that each clash of units delivers dynamic action, while the developer article explains that the system considers the situation, the nearby units and who should damage whom before stitching animation snippets to match the battle. That is the confirmed idea: the system coordinates the presentation of combat across different encounters.

The developer also describes millions of possible animation combinations across combat scenarios and gives examples such as units jumping on one another or being thrown around dynamically. Those examples explain why the Combat Director matters to the feel of the game. They do not turn the system into a damage model, a faction bonus or a public ranking of melee units.

The boundary between spectacle and rules

The Combat Director page should be read as a page about animation logic and combat presentation. The source explains that the system adapts animations to relationships such as heavy infantry fighting lighter or heavier opponents, but it does not publish the complete interaction rules behind every weapon, unit or vehicle. A dramatic animation is therefore not evidence of a hidden damage value.

No public source used here provides a table of animation conditions, a list of every supported interaction or balance figures derived from the system. The confirmed claim is that KING Art built and named the Combat Director for Dawn of War IV and that it dynamically selects combat animations. Exact competitive conclusions remain unconfirmed until the game and its rules can be observed directly.

No cost, build time, hit points, range, damage or squad size here — none of it has been published, by anyone. The game has not shipped and no playable build has produced figures that can be checked. Those rows appear the day the numbers exist.
