Close combat that creates a ranged opening
The Adeptus Mechanicus faction deep dive names Ruststalkers as close-combat-focused units. Deep Silver says they are not as melee-focused as the Orks, and explains that their melee units rely on powerful ranged synergies. The article’s example is direct: Ruststalkers can lure an enemy into a trap and force it into close-quarters combat while Skitarii Rangers fire from a relatively safe distance.
That makes the published role relational rather than isolated. Ruststalkers are described as the immediate threat that draws attention and creates a firing opportunity for another unit. The source does not publish their weapon profile, movement, health or the exact conditions under which the lure succeeds.
The synergy is confirmed; the counter is not
The official example supports using Ruststalkers to shape an engagement, but it does not say that every enemy can be trapped or that the Ruststalkers always survive the approach.
