What the publisher has confirmed about the Unit Veterancy System and what remains unknown about progression values.

Survival changes a unit’s power

Deep Silver’s product page states that units grow in power through the Unit Veterancy System as they survive and thrive in battle. That confirms the central relationship: keeping a unit active is part of its progression in Dawn of War IV. The statement is deliberately broad. It does not say how many ranks exist, how much experience a unit needs or whether every faction advances in exactly the same way.

The multiplayer AMA adds that units benefit from veterancy to different extents across factions, with the system providing stat improvements or unlocking new abilities for a unit. That description is useful because it rules out a single universal reward. Veterancy can affect a unit’s capabilities, but the public source does not provide the complete faction-by-faction table needed to calculate a build order.

Why preservation matters before release

The official multiplayer explanation groups veterancy with cover, retreat and on-field reinforcement as tools for preserving forces and their experience in different circumstances. That makes the system strategically relevant even before exact numbers are known: losing an experienced unit may matter differently from losing a fresh one. It is a design implication of the published description, not a claim that a specific unit should never be replaced.

The authority does not publish experience thresholds, the precise stat changes, the complete ability unlock list or the penalty for losing a veteran unit. This page therefore confirms the Unit Veterancy System and its survival-based progression, while leaving every numerical breakpoint and faction comparison unconfirmed. No pre-release tier list is justified by the name of the mechanic alone.

No cost, build time, hit points, range, damage or squad size here — none of it has been published, by anyone. The game has not shipped and no playable build has produced figures that can be checked. Those rows appear the day the numbers exist.
