Necrons vs Space Marines

Matchup

Checked as of · 1 official source · 2 min read

A conditional pre-release synthesis of Necron territory and resilience against Space Marines elite pressure and reinforcement.

Power Matrix against elite fighters

Deep Silver tells Necron players to advance the Power Matrix, fight within it for bonuses, use translocation to offset slow movement and focus fire to finish units. Its Space Marines guidance says elite fighters usually win one-on-one encounters, should harass early, can preserve units through on-field reinforcement and Retreat, and can move troops with fortifications, Reserves and the Thunderhawk Relay.

The two doctrines pull the engagement in opposite directions. Space Marines want early contact, repeated pressure and the ability to reach distant points; Necrons want the Matrix to make their territory valuable and to use movement tools when a battlefront changes. A conditional plan for Necrons is to force fights inside the field, while a conditional Space Marines plan is to deny that stable territory and exploit the elite advantage before the network matures.

Condition and evidence boundary

Condition: this is an unconfirmed pre-release synthesis assuming the rules and player pairing are available as described and that balance does not change. Under that condition, the result depends on whether Space Marines can stretch the Necron line and deny Power before the Matrix and recovery tools create a prolonged engagement, not on a blanket claim about faction strength.

No official source gives the costs, ranges, reinforcement values, Matrix bonuses or a played result needed to decide the matchup. The page does not publish a tier list, does not choose a best faction and does not prove the pair is a selectable launch queue. It records the two official doctrines as checked on 2026-08-21.
