Dark Angels vs Necrons
Matchup
Checked as of · 1 official source · 2 min read
A conditional pre-release synthesis of the Dark Angels’ elite Space Marines doctrine and the Necrons’ territory-based resilience.
Elite pressure against the Power Matrix
The Dark Angels block uses the Space Marines guidance: elite fighters usually win one-on-one encounters, early pressure can harass an opponent, on-field reinforcement and Retreat preserve units, and fortifications, Reserves and the Thunderhawk Relay extend battlefield reach. The Necron guidance says to advance the Power Matrix, fight within it for bonuses, use translocation to offset slow movement and force opponents to fight outside the Matrix while finishing wounded units.
The synthesis is a contest between elite contact and a territory that makes Necron engagements more resilient. Dark Angels want to use mobility and several engagements before the Matrix becomes the safest place to fight; Necrons want to make the Matrix and recovery systems absorb pressure while striking vulnerable positions elsewhere. Neither doctrine supplies a measured answer for the other.
Condition and limits
Condition: this is an unconfirmed pre-release synthesis assuming the Dark Angels sub-faction and the Necron rules are available together in the relevant mode without balance changes. Under that condition, Dark Angels pressure would try to avoid a long fight on the Matrix, while Necron play would try to draw the engagement into its territory and use movement tools to answer distant threats.
The sources do not publish the figures needed to decide whether elite pressure breaks the Matrix, whether Necron recovery outlasts it or which unit trades best. They also do not prove that this is a selectable launch matchup. This page is not a tier list or a claim that either faction is superior; it is a dated, conditional synthesis of the published guidance.
