How the multiplayer AMA describes Retreat, reduced damage, temporary loss of control and the yellow cancellation window.
Disengage or reposition a unit
The multiplayer AMA says Retreat is effective for disengaging units from melee combat or repositioning them quickly to their closest production structure while taking reduced damage. The cost is control: the player loses control of the unit for some time. That trade is the mechanic’s confirmed shape, and it explains why Retreat is more than a movement command. It exchanges immediate agency for a better chance of preserving a force.
The developer also explains that the Retreat icon changes from red to yellow after some time. While it is yellow, a player can cancel the Retreat order. The source describes that window as a way to keep Retreat meaningful without making it too punishing on larger maps. The cancellation period therefore belongs to the published risk-and-reward design.
The commitment and the open values
The AMA frames Retreat as a decision about when to stop fighting. Keeping a unit longer can let it deal more damage, while leaving earlier makes survival more likely. When an enemy retreats, the developer says the opponent must choose between focus-firing to try to finish the unit and letting it go. This is the published interaction, not a claim that either choice is always correct.
The source does not publish the reduced-damage percentage, the exact control-loss duration, the yellow-window length or the production structures available to every faction. A page that supplied those numbers before the game exposes them would be guessing. The confirmed rule is the commitment and cancellation model; exact timing remains unconfirmed.

No cost, build time, hit points, range, damage or squad size here — none of it has been published, by anyone. The game has not shipped and no playable build has produced figures that can be checked. Those rows appear the day the numbers exist.
